Introduction ...

'Mobile Meds' is a mobile medical clinic which provide basic medical care to the tsunami effected people in the west and south cost of Sri Lanka . The IMPAKTAID Mobile Medical Unit provides primary health care services to the displaced people in camps and other disadvantaged people in underprivileged areas of the country. This service also extends it-self as a response unit that attends disaster situations to provide emergency medical care.

Aim ....

The aim of the clinics is, firstly to ensure that residents in these tsunami displaced camps, and other disadvantaged populations, have access to primary medical care, free of charge. Where a more serious medical complication is found, Impaktaid will refer the patient to a specialist or in some cases assist a patient through longer and more intensive treatment. Secondly, to promote health and improve the basic levels of knowledge regarding their personal health and environment. Finally the aim is to provide an emergency response service that will be able to arrive on location set up and deliver emergency medical relief until more help arrives

Need ....

Living conditions in these camps mean that many communicable diseases are common, in particular infectious skin diseases. Lack of ventilation and close living quarters mean that cold/flu viruses spread easily, and the poor nutrition of residents means that these often advance into respiratory infections. These and many other conditions are easily dealt with during a Mobile Meds clinic. The locations that are visited are followed up on a monthly rotation by MMU. The documentation is designed to enable follow up of previous clinics.
